01.Build the registry for your baby, not a giant checklist.
You can always add later. Start with what you’ll need in the first few weeks and what fits the space you actually have.
- Start with everyday basics.Think feeding, diapering, a safe sleep space, and a few clothes in more than one size. Check hand-me-downs before adding duplicates.
- Ask about the boring details.Will it fit through your doorway? How often will it need cleaning? Are the refills expensive? Can you return it if your baby hates it?
- Check welcome-box rules.Amazon currently requires Prime, ten unique checklist items, and at least $10 in purchases from the registry before an eligible registry owner can claim a welcome box. Contents vary and availability can change.

The cost-per-wear trick.
A $12 outfit worn twice costs $6 per wear. A $25 outfit worn 25 times costs $1 per wear. That does not mean buying the pricier one every time. It means checking fit, fabric, laundry, and whether your child will actually reach for it.
For a growth-spurt season, try a swap or secondhand first. For shoes and school gear, ask another mom what held up after a month of real use.

The big box is not always the bargain.
Compare the same unit: price per diaper, ounce, or laundry load. A $15 pack with 50 diapers is 30¢ each; a $20 pack with 80 is 25¢ each. Check sizes and coupons too, because the shelf tag might not tell the whole story.
Then ask whether you can use the larger pack before it expires, your child outgrows it, or it takes over the closet. The best deal is one your household can use.
