“Set a watch, O LORD, before my mouth; keep the door of my lips.” — Psalm 141:3, KJV

Some of the holiest work in a home happens in the pause before a sentence. We cannot control another person’s tone, a child’s disappointment, or the tension somebody carries into the room. We can ask God to guard the doorway of our own words. That does not mean swallowing truth or ignoring danger. It means letting truth pass through wisdom, courage, and love before it leaves our mouth.

One kingdom-work step today

Choose one sentence you may need before the pressure rises: “I need a minute before I answer,” “We are not discussing that in front of the children,” or “I can speak about this when we are both calm.” Write it down and practice saying it without an extra accusation.

A prayer for moms

Lord, set a watch before my mouth today. Slow the words that would wound, strengthen the words that protect, and help me tell the truth without cruelty. Give me wisdom to pause, courage to set a needed boundary, and humility to repair quickly when I speak wrongly. Let my words bring life to my home. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Carry this with you: A guarded mouth is not a silent one; it is a doorway where wisdom gets to stand.
