Amazon says you need an eligible Baby Registry, a Prime membership, 10 unique items from its registry checklist, and at least $10 in purchases from the registry to qualify for its welcome box. The purchases can be made by you or gift givers. The box contains a changing assortment of items, so it is not a guaranteed list of specific products. Check Amazon's current terms and availability when you claim it.
Someone may create a registry without qualifying for the welcome box. The registry itself does not mean a box is ready to ship.
What to do, step by step
- Create an Amazon Baby Registry. Use Amazon's Baby Registry page (affiliate link), enter the details it requests, and save your registry.
- Add 10 unique checklist items. Look at the checklist progress in your registry. Ten copies of the same item are not ten unique items.
- Check the $10 purchase requirement. At least $10 of eligible purchases must come through the registry. Buying a product elsewhere, or simply adding it to the list, does not satisfy this step.
- Confirm Prime and claim the box. Once Amazon marks your registry eligible, follow its claim instructions. Availability and the items in the box can vary.

What does “free” really mean?
There is no separate price for an eligible welcome box, but the qualification steps include Prime and $10 or more in registry purchases. If you would only spend money to get a mystery box, compare that cost with the baby basics you actually need.
